Nayarit is a state
of bountiful produce, and every street corner has a market selling fresh fruits
and vegetables, both grown locally and brought from other parts of Mexico.
Fruit stands on highway from Puerto Vallart
The days of beans and tortillas as the mainstay of our diets is
long past, and our cooks are plentifully supplied with the freshest of produce,
dairy products and meats. And of course there is the sea, where fish and shrimp
and oysters are brought in daily.
Our cooks are very
flexible both in catering to individual tastes as well as to special dietary
requirements. Fresh juices and "aguas", or sweetened wild fruit
extractions, are always on hand. We have our own brand of coffee roasted and
ground in Jalcocoltan, in the midst of a prime coffee producing area.
The cooks
arrive at 7:30, and will prepare the breakfast of your choice, together with a
fruit platter, coffee and juice. The main meal of the day is taken between
1-2PM, called "Comida", and is usually followed by a quiet siesta. A
light supper can usually be scrounged from leftovers, or the well stocked
larder. The cooks leave at 4:30.
Mexico is a "cerveza
con limon". beer with lime, and, of course, margaritas.
Your food package includes a reasonable amount of beer (Pacifico, Corona, and
the new Indio, a wonderful dark local beer. Nationally produced liquors are also
available at a reasonable cost, as are a selection of wines from Baja California
and Chile.
Sundays, which
are the cooks' day off, everyone is on their own for breakfast, and for dinner
we all head for Platanitos, the local fishing village 10 minutes away, for an
awesome meal of shrimp and fish, that will astound the pickiest palate.
Linens are changed three times a week, and fresh towels are provided daily.
Anything lacking simply requires a request.
Food Packages are $150 USD per person per week, and $75 for children under
12. Higher rates apply to Christmas and Easter periods. We strongly urge guests
to take advantage of this service. We have had nothing but glowing praise for
this service, especially from the cooks in the family, who get a break on their
vacation.
